A letter to Santa ~ Eggsy's Christmas Wish List

Dear Santa,

I know I've been a bit naughty this year breaking the electric fencing and fighting but I believe I've learned the error of my ways and I am trying very hard to be a good boy. 

So hooves crossed that I've been good enough to get some pressies, here's what I would really like:

You know I bent the electric fence poles and broke a few electric gate handles so if I could have some of those it would be really, really good because it would benefit me and my friends. We could use them, along with some electric fence rope, to make extra grazing paddocks in the summer. They would be a gift that kept on giving because it would mean we could all have more grass and I won't break them again, really I won't.

You probably know that I like my food a LOT, food is one of my favourite things so I've added bags of food and a bottle of yummy linseed oil  to my Amazon Wish list. It's cheaper from the feed merchants but I thought if you didn't want to give me money to buy it and wanted to send it to me yourself I'd better show you what I like.

And of course food calls for a feed bucket and maybe a water bucket for an after dinner drink, especially as I'm a bit clumsy and break those too, by accident.

I broke my lead rope too, sorry I didn't mean too I just pulled too hard when I was tied up, I didn't want to be tied up but I didn't want to break my lead rope either so could I have a new one of those please? An extra strong one would be a good idea.

PS Apparently I would find it easier to be good if I had an operation to make me a gelding but it costs a lot of money, about £300, so we need to save up in my Paypal account (eggsypony@gmail.com) before I can have it done.

PPS If you didn't want to deliver the food, I know it's quite heavy and the sleigh will be heavy for Rudolph and friends to pull we can buy it I have a GoFundMe for food 

PPPS Sorry I nearly forgot I'm going to need the expensive get rid of encysted red worms / tape worm de-wormer too it's called Equest Pramox  and costs about £20 I could buy it with GoFundMe money or Paypal. 

I hope I'm not asking for too much it's my "official" birthday on 1st January 2019 so my pressies could be joint Christmas and Birthday.

Another catch up with over due thank yous

I first started this post in the middle of September but never published it as I was having difficulties with the print size, some words were large and others small!

A few days later and I just didn't have the will to blog, we lost another of our equines. Ex-racehorse Tipper died on 26th September, to say I'm devastated is an understatement.

We had a visit from Nurse Moreland

Eggsy was rather pleased to see Nurse Moreland again, so pleased in fact that he forgot his manners and attempted to send the others away with a kick! After all he thought to himself Nurse Moreland is MY visitor.

Well maybe next time you're expecting visitors Eggsy you could try brushing your hair ~ what do you mean that's my job? Cheeky chappie!

Thank yous and what your donations are spent on

Hello I'm soo overdue with my thank you's so a huge thank you to Philomena, Diane, Elizabeth, Leighton, Veronica, Graham and dear anonymous  for your donations towards Eggsy's keep over the last couple of months or so.

I also need to thank Forelock & Fringe and Kath Smart for the fabulous box of goodies won in a Twitter giveaway way back in May

and Equi-Signs for the gift of this sign that will help to keep me safe.

All these thank you's have made me think that you'd probably be interested in knowing what your donated money buys, so here goes:

£5 will buy a feed / water bucket, Eggsy goes through quite a lot of these ~ those hooves!

Or a bag of HoneyChop chaff, well actually it's a little more than a fiver now.

£10 will buy a bag of oats or beet or bran

£12 buys the yummy alfalfa pellets and £15 would buy the Rowan Barbary Mash Eggsy has when the weather conditions get harsh and he needs a little extra help with feeds.

£15 will also buy some wormers though this one is £20 & necessary at least annually for encysted red worm.

£20 buys a bag of micronized linseed.

Hooves are £20 a trim every 6 to 8 weeks depending on hoof growth, Graham is kindly sponsoring this until the end of this year, thank you Graham.

£50 buys a bale of haylage, at current weight of bale Eggsy eats a bale and a half a month ( Wish I hadn't just worked that out that's £75 a month on haylage alone!)

Tetanus shots, every other year, including the vet call out fee comes in at just under £80 as does yearly teeth rasping. 

All a bit scary really when you start to see how much a pony costs to keep, thank you for your continued support, we couldn't do this without you.

All change ~ what Eggsy's up to now

We all know that Eggsy can be a bit of an escape artist don't we? 

Well this time he has broken into the field where Murphy used to live and is quite simply refusing to leave. He's been returned to his own paddock but we've been unable to keep him in. He has no respect for the electric fence or the fence posts!

Of course his desire to be in the "big field" has everything to do with the presence of a mare who fortunately has no interest in impudent young colts.

There has been much telling off, mare style.

Much posturing to try and send Pip away, not to mention a bit of fighting, how times have changed, when he first came here he was really quite scared of Pippin. 

Eggsy's not had an easy time of it but Madeline and Pip have now accepted him as long as he behaves himself, they're not having any of his coltish behaviour in their field! 

So for now peace reigns again ~ hopefully.

Catch up

If truth be known I've been putting off writing this blog post, June was taken up with the sudden and catastrophic onset of illness in our very first rescue pony Murphy.

 At just 9 years old, his 9th birthday was on 31st May, Murphy, for no apparent reason, suffered a rectal prolapse which eventually proved to be inoperable and he was PTS on 27th June.

I'm not going to go into details, most of you will know them from Twitter anyway, but we received poor advice from the original vet who came out to see Murph which at the time gave us hope of saving him. We raised the money with the help of many caring people which was spent on unnecessary treatment that we eventually discovered, via a consultation with another vet from a different practice, was never and could never have helped. 

We're devastated. 

Since Murphy's death Eggsy has been acting up again, his broken a few fence posts escaping his paddock and even causing (minor) injury to one of the other horses. Eggsy needs gelding but with the current heatwave and lacking stabling that's not really a safe option for him at the moment. Too many flies around to have the open wounds that castration leave which in a worse case scenario could lead to infection and fly strike. 

Our forage crisis continues, we're still being supplied the half usual weight bales at the big bale price, thus doubling our forage costs, I'm told it will be another 6 weeks before this year's cut is ready to sell. In addition to that the heatwave & drought has finished off the grass so no grazing to help reduce costs now. 

So not a very cheery catch up I'm afraid. Hopefully next time we'll have happier news.

Eggsy is due a visit from the farrier this Friday 13th, (hope that's not a bad omen!),  if anyone would like to sponsor his trim we'd be most grateful.
